96 POINTS: Luca Maroni, 2019
Lying at the centre of the original appellation, Chianti Classico defines the region's top echelon wines. This is a superb red from the Taddei family, who have owned the 180 hectare Lornano estate since 1904. Their award winning winemaker is the exuberant and talented Franco Bernabei, a former 'Winemaker of the Year' whose nickname is Mr Sangiovese. This red is complex and well-structured with long ripe berry and spice notes. Best enjoyed with classic Italian cuisine - wild mushroom risotto, beef carpaccio or saltimbocca.

"Aromas of French oak, toast, menthol, exotic spice and black-skinned fruit unfold on the nose of this excellent Reserva. The ripe, savory palate offers fleshy black cherry, vanilla, licorice and coffee framed in firm but velvety tannins that lend beautiful finesse and fine structure. Drink 2017–2022."

Winemaking: Sangiovese grapes harvested between 3 and 19 October, carefully de-stemmed grapes are vinified in modern stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for a median duration of 15-18 days at a temperature of about 26 ° centigrade. When the alcoholic fermentation is completed, the wine begins his malolactic fermentation after which there the transfer in French oak barrels where it remains for about 6 months.

Tasting notes: Intense and focused ruby red colour. Fragrance of ripe red fruit on a spicy background, “wet” tannins, dry and clean.
