The name of the vineyard "Spiegel" (mirror) is said to derive from Latin “spectaculum”(“look-out”). In the ancient times of the “Limes”, the Romans probably used the spot to observe the Germanic tribes to the north of the Danube. However, still up to now most of the folks think that the name is linked to the convex vaulting of the 300 meter hill, a kind of “mirror” to the sky.

“Deep, ripe and intense on the elegant and flinty sur lie nose, the 2018 Grüner Veltliner Ried Spiegel 1ÖTW Vincent is a full-bodied, elegant, highly complex and structured yet fine and silky, very sustainable and salty Veltliner with enormous power and grip on the finish. The Spiegel is from calcareous loess soils and has a finer and more elegant texture than the Lamm but less grip. During my first tastings in September 2019, I thought this wine was surely the best Spiegel I had tasted from Bründlmayer in nearly 20 years, but later I thought it was just a question of personal taste whether you prefer the endless salinity and finesse of the Spiegel or the tension and grip of the Lamm.”
