If the current shade of pink gin doesn’t really do it for you, a New Zealand distillery has drawn on some dark magic to create the world’s first naturally black gin.
Created by distillers, Mark Neal and Daniel McLaughlin, Scapegrace Black is made from a blend of unusual botanicals, including aronia berry, saffron, pineapple, butterfly pea flower and sweet potato, which work together to create a naturally black brew.
The secret to its ebony shade comes from the precise temperatures that the botanicals are distilled and the sequence with which they are added.
The gin is said to be full-bodied on the palate with a candied sweet potato and pineapple finish with a luxurious, velvety mouthfeel.
